Hello, I am an industrial designer by core, Mdes batch of 2018-20. I am from Kerala and I have a Bachelor's degree in Architecture. My love for Architecture and designing tangible products ended me at IIT Guwahati. A late realization of the importance of UX made me a fan of Nielsen Norman Group and from then I am constantly learning all about UX and its importance in all Design fields. I developed skill sets for making meaningful industrial products, pixel perfect UI s, and drawing epiphanies from User Experience research. I strongly believe understanding the user and the context of the usage as key factors for a design to be successful. A passionate learner and an online tutor now.

Shower Chair For Paraplegic

Product Design

Abstract

In this project, various problems faced by paralyzed patients of various levels are observed. The
major difficulties faced by various paralyzed patients are then categorized. Out of that, difficulties faced by the person in his daily routines like showering, dressing, and defecation, are
considered which affect them both physically and mentally, since they are not able to perform the task they performed before and they lose their privacy and independence when a second person as a caregiver comes to their life. These activities also include other activities such as transfers and mobility from the bedroom to the toilet and toilet to back. Key features and ergonomic considerations for a new product is created along with four different design directions for addressing the problem. Primary research is carried out with neurosurgeons, physiotherapists, and patients to find the validity of design directions and criticism. The final product is the output of further iterations and testing. The project was to look into the daily life and problems of paralyzed people. The product under development will help the user to accomplish these tasks with less effort and will enhance the experience of a paraplegic's daily life from the bedroom to the bathroom and back.
